England are set to play rivals Australia in their opening game at the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in San Diego, California, USA after World Lacrosse released the full tournament schedule earlier today.

Taking place on Thursday 22 June, the second official game day at the Championship, England’s Pool A opener against Australia will be played at the University of San Diego on their Torero pitch at 7pm Pacific Daylight Time (PDT).

That opening game will be followed less than 24 hours later on Friday 23 June by a huge second round match against the Haudenosaunee Confederacy at 4pm (PDT) also at the University of San Diego on the Torero pitch.

After a day’s break to recover, England will play defending champions USA on Sunday 25 June at 4pm PDT before finishing their pool stage games against Canada on Monday 26 June at 7pm PDT.

England, who are ranked fifth in the world after an unbelievable 11-9 comeback victory over Japan in the fifth place game at the 2018 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship, will be hoping to start quickly against fourth ranked Australia to give themselves the best chance of reaching the quarter-final stage and beyond.

It is expected the full ESPN television schedule for the event will be released over the next couple of months with the coverage matching that of the Women’s World Championship last year; ESPN showed several of England’s matches as well as both semi-finals, the third place game, and the final.

England’s final 23-player squad will be announced after Head Coach Doug Shanahan and his team make their last training squad cut in March.
