World Lacrosse has announced its 51-strong officiating roster ahead of the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in June with 12 England-based officials being chosen as part of the group.
Beginning on 21 June in San Diego, California, USA, the 51 officials represent 14 nations and three Continental Federations and were selected in consultation with National and Continental federations based on the officials’ quality and past performance at previous World Lacrosse events and events held within their federations.
Mark Buckley, Peter Davidson, Thomas Hamey, James Hawksworth, Michael Leahy, and Dean Mohareb have all been selected as referees for the tournament along with Chi Fung (Dennis) Cheng and Chi Shing (Edwin) Leung who are based in England but will represent Hong Kong, China.
Phil Pearson will take up a role in the Leadership Team as a Deputy Referee in Chief and Graham Blyth will act as an Officials Administrator while Ian Ashworth and Greg Irwin will represent England as Coaches during the tournament.
England Lacrosse Officiating Co-ordinator, Ryan Griffiths, is delighted with the selection of the England-based officials.
“It’s great to see so many officials associated with England Lacrosse heading to such a huge event like the Men’s World Championship.
“It’s been a brilliant few years for lacrosse officiating in England and we can’t wait to see them take to the field in San Diego and show the world how good they are!”
England Lacrosse has been involved in the selection process ahead of the Championship and following a successful summer of 2022 for English referees, we wish all those heading to San Diego in June a huge congratulations!
