University lacrosse teams all over the country have been showing their colours over the past week to celebrate Stonewall’s annual Rainbow Laces campaign.
These celebrations came to a head on Wednesday 26 October with a special Rainbow Laces Day when our university teams donned their rainbow laces, Stonewall’s symbol of inclusion across sport, during their BUCS fixtures.
Stonewall first started their famous Rainbow Laces campaign nine years ago and, since then, over one million of us have laced up in support of LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport.
The campaign has brought visibility for LGBTQ+ people in sport and raised awareness of their experiences on and off the pitch.
But there’s still so much to be done and this year’s theme (“inclusion has no off-season”) is encouraging everyone involved in sport to make a difference just by starting conversations with those around them, calling out anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment when they hear it, and raising awareness of the stigma and discrimination that LGBTQ+ people in sport still face.
That’s exactly what university lacrosse teams have been doing during the campaign this year and you can check out what some of them have been up to below!
