England Lacrosse is saddened to learn of the death of lifelong lacrosse supporter and volunteer, Ken Haves, after a long illness.
Ken started his lacrosse-playing career at Urmston Lacrosse Club in Greater Manchester where he eventually became Club Administrator making vital contributions to both Urmston and lacrosse in the north of England.
He was a member of the North of England Lacrosse Association (NELA) Disciplinary Committee, organiser of North of England Men’s Lacrosse Association (NEMLA) Presentation dinners, Lancashire Secretary, and finally Lancashire President.
After Urmston Lacrosse Club folded in the early 1990s, Ken joined Hulmeians Lacrosse Club and was a part of the group that joined Brooklands in 1996.
After that, Ken continued his wider contribution to northern lacrosse as Treasurer of NEMLA and then the North West Lacrosse Association (NWLA).
From 2000 onwards, Ken was greatly involved in the annual Flags Festival at Rochdale Lacrosse Club, masterminding the ticketing, gate, and finalists’ medals.
At Brooklands, Ken served as Chief Bench Official (CBO) for all the senior teams in all weathers and in the summertime he could be seen on the balcony watching cricket and trying his hand at croquet.
The ultimate club volunteer, Ken died peacefully at home on 11 January 2024.
England Lacrosse sends our condolences to Ken’s family and friends at this difficult time.
