Stockport retain title at 2022 Stockport September Sixes

Stockport men's team who won Stockport September Sixes 2022

Stockport Lacrosse Club came out on top for the second year running as they defeated Heaton Mersey 8-7 in the men’s final at the 2022 Stockport September Sixes.

After overcoming Cheadle Hulme and City of Stoke in their respective semi-finals, Stockport and Heaton Mersey played out a fascinating final, eventually won with just a minute left on the clock by Stockport.

In the women’s final, Oxton blew away Loughborough, eventually coming away with a 13-4 win to take home the women’s title.

The tournament, which took place over Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September, was the second edition of the event which also showcased the very best lacrosse from around the north of England across six age groups.

On the Saturday, the junior teams took centre stage with the boys U12, U14, U16, girls U13 and U15 competitions taking place.

In the boys U12 and U16 tournaments, Heaton Mersey did what their senior team mates were unable to do and win their respective final matches while Stockport took home the boys U14 trophy.

In the girls section, Timperley won the U15 competition staying unbeaten all day and beating Heaton Mersey in the final while the spoils were shared after a full four-quarter game between Stockport and Heaton Mersey ended in a draw.

As with all events like the Stockport September Sixes, the volunteers are the unsung heroes and it isn’t easy to run a new competition with a new format for several age categories over one weekend. So to all those who gave up their entire weekend (including Friday in some cases), Stockport, England Lacrosse, and the sport as a whole is thankful!
