Knights continue unbeaten run at inaugural SBL Winter Box League

London Knights overcame a determined Steelheads side to remain unbeaten while Thundercats took down Heaton Hornets in the second round of fixtures at the inaugural Southern Box Lacrosse (SBL) Winter Box League on Sunday.

After an enthralling opening weekend that saw both games won by a single goal, the second round of SBL Winter Box League fixtures didn’t disappoint.

London Knights took on Steelheads in the late game of the day with both teams knowing that a win would see them top the group and put them in prime position for a place in the final in a couple of weeks’ time.

Steelheads, who defeated Thundercats in their previous fixture, started well, finding themselves a goal up early in the first quarter through Dave Groves.

But Knights’ quality shone through and two late goals ensured a 6-4 victory to put them top of the table after two wins in two games.

In the early game, Heaton Hornets played Thundercats with both teams looking for a first win in the league.

It was a frenetic and ferocious game that saw 23 goals including an incredible seven strikes from Thundercats attacker and European champion with England, Jamie Powell.

But despite Heaton Hornets’ best efforts and a hat-trick from Ollie Allsop, they fell in their second round fixture leaving them bottom of the table with one more set of group fixtures to go.

Heading into the final round of group fixtures on Sunday 8 January, all four teams can mathematically reach the top two and play in the final; you can watch those fixtures live as well as all other SBL Winter Box League games in full over on Lacrosse Live UK’s YouTube channel HERE.
