Six women will be involved in the Winter Box League after the four squads were announced following the draft last week.
Evie Stephens, Jane Lee, Millie Johnson, Fiona MacLean, Gabby Wroe, and Sofia Best will be taking their place in the various squads and lining up alongside the men in what is believed to be a first in world lacrosse.
This is all part of Southern Box Lacrosse’s drive to involve more women in box lacrosse and increase participation among that demographic.
It is coupled with the work Southern Box Lacrosse has been doing recently within women-specific box lacrosse which was showcased just last month at the first annual BoxFest with a special women-specific box lacrosse session.
The teams as a whole are packed full of international talent including eight of those men’s players who became European champions with England in the summer.
London Knights, Steelheads, Heaton Hornets, and Thundercats are due to face off on Sunday 11 December, the first competition day of the brand new Winter Box League, at the 3G Dome at Oxford Academy.
Subsequent league fixtures will take place on Sunday 18 December, Sunday 8 January, and Sunday 15 January with fixtures starting at 1pm and finishing at 5pm on each of those days.
