England senior women's Florida tour blog - Day 1

The England Women’s training squad will be bringing you regular blog updates from their Florida Tour, giving the inside story on their week of training in the build up to this year’s Women’s World Championship.

Having not been on tour since 2019, where we took Gold in the European Championships in Israel, the team were very excited to get away as a squad and continue to build together towards the World Championship. The squad are headed to Florida to train and play a couple of games and are looking forward to spending some quality time together!

After a long flight to Orlando, the team travelled to Auburndale in Central Florida where it was already late so headed to bed to begin our ‘Florida Forward’ tour the next day.

The day started with an early rise and the squad loaded their mini vans and headed to the supermarket to pick up our breakfast and lunch for the day.

We then drove on to Lake Myrtle Sports Complex where we were warmly welcomed on arrival with a team meeting room with a complimentary bag of merchandise for each player.

We started the day with some light mobility to get the bodies slowly going after the flight and then moved on to some stickwork before having a break for lunch.

The squad all met in the meeting room to enjoy a well-deserved lunch and time to relax.

After this, we had a coaches meeting to go through our team goals, performance goals and tactical plays which we would be focusing on for the day and throughout the week.

Then it was time to head back out to the pitches for our second training session of the day, which was focused on more tactical situations, working on some of our defensive and attacking plays.

It allowed everyone to work at a higher intensity and meant the squad was able to go through all their plays for the start of the week.

After a long day we took to the pool to have a recovery session followed by chillis to refuel our bodies.

Just to end the evening, Assistant Coach Katie Koi led us in part 1 of games night, splitting in to four teams to play ‘England got Game’; working on our game faces and kicking off the team bonding challenge.

Team England are looking forward to another day in sunny Florida tomorrow with an inter squad match at Lake Myrtle… stay tuned!
