England Lacrosse backing Stonewall Rainbow Laces campaign

Lacrosse players backing the Rainbow Laces campaign

England Lacrosse is delighted to be supporting Rainbow Laces Week as part of Stonewall’s campaign to Make Sport Everyone’s Game.

This year’s campaign runs from the 22 November - 8 December and is calling on players, clubs, fans and organisations to show their support for LGBT people in sport.

This year’s campaign is asking people to ‘Come Out Active’ and bring Rainbow Laces into your community. It’s as simple as this: do something active while wearing your rainbow laces, raise vital funds for Stonewall and tell everyone why you support LGBT equality in sport.

Sport has an amazing power to bring people together but 4 in 10 LGBT people don’t think sport is welcoming and that’s why we all need to play our part to make sport everyone’s game.

England Lacrosse was delighted to show support at this weekend’s School Challenge Cup where players from all teams sported their rainbow laces, along with the captains of all of the teams leading their side with pride by wearing the rainbow armbands.

England Lacrosse has also shone a light on the campaign as we spoke to Stonewall Senior Sport Empowerment Officer and International lacrosse player, Erin Walters-Williams on our Latest ‘Lacrosse Talk’ podcast. You can listen to the podcast HERE

Robbie de Santos, Stonewall's director of sport, said: "At a time when society feels increasingly divided, sport has this unique ability to bring people together from all walks of life.

"We can't just rely on LGBT people to make sports more inclusive - we all have to play our part. While wearing a simple shoelace might seem like a small gesture, for LGBT people it's a powerful symbol of acceptance”.

You can join in supporting the campaign by getting hold of your own rainbow laces. Visit www.stonewall.org.uk/rainbowlaces for more information on that and all other aspects of the campaign. You can also show your support on Social Media by using the hashtag #RainbowLaces
