England Lacrosse is delighted to announce our anti-doping strategy, developed with UK Anti-Doping, as part of our commitment to promoting and supporting clean doping-free sport across the lacrosse community.

EL understand the contribution that sport can make to health, unity and social cohesion and, as respect and integrity are core values to the sport of lacrosse, EL is committed to ensuring lacrosse is played in an environment that supports fair play and is a doping-free sport, supported by a simple and thorough education and information strategy.

EL is working in accordance with UK Anti-Doping rules, World Lacrosse Anti-Doping rules, and the WADA code, and is committed to providing players the right to play in a doping-free sport, developing alongside implementing, an education strategy to support this.

The EL anti-doping philosophy is to create an anti-doping education strategy, through a three-year implementation plan, which supports and provides anti-doping education to its players and the wider workforce in the sport ensuring that those involved at all levels of the sport are provided with relevant and current anti-doping information enabling them to make informed choices.

This direction will help to create and maintain an environment where athletes, support staff, other participants and the public at large have confidence that lacrosse is a doping-free sport and where success will not be questioned.

As part of the anti-doping strategy, EL will:

• Provide information to the wider game about doping in sport

• Integrate anti-doping policies into the wider education and skills programme

• Educate athletes & coaches within the England Lacrosse Talent programmes as to their responsibilities to a clean sport

• Educate and support performance athletes, coaches & support staff as to policies and their responsibilities within the EL Clean Sport Strategy

England Lacrosse Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mark Coups, said:

“The progressive partnership, developed over recent months, with UK Anti-Doping to ensure that our sport is safe and clean has been a great step for lacrosse to make.  We are committed to having a level playing field when we compete either domestically or internationally.

“The new Anti Doping assurance code has helped us set out how we can do more to ensure that our sport is clean and, using UKAD's expertise, will do even more in the future to highlight the "Clean Sport" message and education programme.”

First Full Triple Arrow Camps & Talent Pathway Schedule Since 2019 Goes Ahead without a Hitch!

Earlier this month, during the school Easter holidays, a full Triple Arrow Camps and Talent Pathway schedule went ahead for the first time since 2019.

Six two-day Triple Arrow Camps were able to run at venues around the country while several Talent Pathway sessions covering the regional and national pathways took place.

As per the Government and England Lacrosse advice, each session went ahead with stringent coronavirus restrictions in place, meaning equipment such as sticks and balls were sanitised regularly and attendees wore masks and remained social distanced while registering on the day.

Across the two week Easter holiday period, over 1,000 young people joined us on either our Triple Arrow Camps or our Talent Pathway sessions and, after a year away, we are so pleased that there is still such an appetite to play lacrosse!

Check out some of the images from the sessions below.

New County Academies Begin this Weekend!

New County Academies Begin this Weekend

England Lacrosse’s County Academies, new for the 2020/21 season and replacing the existing Regional Assessment Days, will commence this weekend (17 October).

The new Academies will act as the first rung on the England Lacrosse Talent Pathway ladder for lacrosse players aged 12 & 13 years old.

The change will benefit young athletes as they will be assessed over four days to give them the best opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, specifically decision making under pressure, athleticism and resilience.

Open to young lacrosse players in year eight, there are seven County Academy regions this year (Yorkshire/Greater Manchester/Cheshire, Surrey/West Sussex, Central London, Kent, Wiltshire/Dorset/Hampshire, Worcestershire/Gloucestershire, Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire), allowing ambitious lacrosse players from all over the country the opportunity to join the England Lacrosse Talent Pathway set-up.

As was the case with the previous Regional Assessment Days, schools and clubs were asked to nominate talented players who were then invited to one of the seven four-day County Academy sessions.

The sessions were originally due to take place during April this year but had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They will now take place periodically starting from this weekend until the 27 October when successful girls will be invited to join the Regional Academy.

England Lacrosse National Performance & Talent Development Officer, Jane Powell, believes the sessions are hugely important to the England Lacrosse Talent Pathway and national team set-up and are much needed after their postponement earlier in the year.

“After such a tough year where we were forced to postpone all our scheduled Talent Pathway sessions, this month’s County Academy sessions will provide a boost to the girls taking part as well as the England Lacrosse Talent Pathway as a whole.

“It’s so important we continue to nurture the young lacrosse talent around the country and this weekend marks the start of a relative return to normality which we very much appreciate”.
