England produced a strong semi final performance to move past Scotland 11-5 and book a place in the Women’s European Championship final in Portugal.
England led throughout the contest, and despite Scotland always keeping in relative touch there was always enough firepower in the English ranks to keep off any sign of a comeback.
The victory now sets up a rematch of the 2019 European final against Israel, as England look to defend their European title for a fourth straight success in the competition.
In hot conditions out on the field, both teams looked to get a hold on the game early with Scotland holding lots of early possession, but England’s defence held resolutely throughout the first 10 minutes before Liv Wimpenny was then able to open the scoring for England.
England then added two more before the 1/4 time through Milly Home and Sofia Wise and when Claire Faram added a fourth just after the break England were streaking ahead 4-0.
However, Scotland regrouped and were able to get on the board with the final two scores of the half, England going in to the half-time 4-2.
After an extended half-time break, England came out hottest, Wimpenny scoring a solo effort with the self draw win then going direct to goal to finish.
Scotland pulled one back once more, before Jordan Carr introduced herself to the game in big fashion.
First she scored a composed free position shot, before the moment of the game came as Carr finished off a drive and feed between Home and Faram with an outrageous BTB effort that wowed the watching crowds and gave England a 7-3 lead.
Scotland did pull one back to go into the 3/4 time at 7-4, but once again Carr scored a free position straight out of the break to restore the four goal lead after which England managed the final quarter well, adding another three goals, Carr finishing with four and Wimpenny notching a hat-trick and Julie Wise rounding out the scoring.
