The hosts of this year’s annual Home Internationals event, Lacrosse Scotland, have announced the 2021 competition has been cancelled.
Originally due to take place between 9 - 11 April, the event would have seen junior and senior teams of the women’s and men’s national teams from Scotland, England, and Wales go head-to-head in a battle to be the best of Britain.
The decision was made jointly and unanimously between England Lacrosse, Lacrosse Scotland, and the Wales Lacrosse Association at a meeting earlier this week.
While the planned April series has been cancelled, all hope is not lost however, as a statement released by Lacrosse Scotland said:
“We will be constantly monitoring the situation and reconvening in February in the hope that there will be some changes in the travel and group meeting restrictions.
“We are still hopeful that we might organise some form of Home Internationals in 2021 but […] people’s safety will always come first.”
Upon hearing the news of the cancelled event, England Lacrosse National Performance & Talent Development Officer, Jane Powell, remarked:
“Although it is disappointing to see yet another high-level competition removed from the calendar, we understand the reasons behind the decision and support it fully.
“We keep our fingers crossed for a change in the situation and subsequently the Government restrictions and hopefully we can enjoy a different form of the Home Internationals event later in the year as it has always proved to be a vital tournament in our preparation for upcoming European and World Championships .”
